Cadiz's cathedral took over a century to complete, begun in 1722 on the site of a medieval church lost to fire, and finally finished in 1838 after passing through the hands of several architects, including Vicente Acero, who also designed the cathedral in Granada. That long, uneven construction left it with a striking blend of Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical styles, still visible in the golden stone facing the square today.
