Founded by royal charter under Alfonso X the Wise in 1270, Pontedeume grew up where the Eume river widens into the sea, and its small-boat harbor has been central to the town's life ever since. Seen from above at dusk, the scattered boats and lit waterfront give a sense of a working town settling in for the evening.
