Built to carry the railway across the tidal marshes that separate the Cadiz peninsula from the mainland, the San Pedro river bridge once linked the city to Puerto Real over the same caños that flood and drain with every tide. Long since retired from rail traffic, it now stands as one of the quieter landmarks of the Bahia de Cadiz, its rusted trusses cutting through a landscape that turns brilliant red and gold each autumn as the marsh vegetation changes color.
