Below, the Guadalete river curls around the base of the town, crossed by a single iron bridge, framed here by dark cypress trees in the foreground.

Arcos de la Frontera sits on the eastern bank of the Guadalete, with sweeping views over the valley toward the peak of San Cristobal. Its name comes from its history as a frontier town during Spain's 13th-century battles with the Moors, and the layered white houses and church towers that fill this frame still trace that centuries-old skyline.
