Fractal Earth Saint Sebastian Cadiz Spain

Low tide reveals a landscape that looks almost designed: moss-green rock shelves cracked into branching, fractal patterns, each fissure holding a mirror of pooled water and sunset color. The silhouette of the Castle of San Sebastian anchors the far edge of the frame as the sky burns orange behind the clouds.

The Castle of San Sebastian sits on a small island just off Cadiz, connected to the city by a long causeway and best known today as the backdrop to one of the city's most photographed sunsets. Here, though, the castle recedes into silhouette, giving the stage to the tidal rock itself: centuries of erosion carving a natural, branching geometry into the shoreline.
